While it is certain that Monopoli is not a true holiday resort (Il Capitolo south of the town is the centre of the local holiday area), just a typical southern Italian coastal town, is that such a bad thing! Popular for many decades with the inhabitants of the towns and cities of northern Italy, a trickle of UK visitors is gradually arriving, thanks to the low cost flights landing at Brindisi and Bari from various British airports, with Easyjet and Ryanair at the forefront in opening up the region.

The fairly central location of Monopoli and close proximity to the excellent coast road make it a good base to explore the area with lots to see and do close by, a peaceful break lazing by the pool or a beach holiday from one of the many wonderful coves.

The current trend is away from package holidays, to "self build" breaks where you can pick your own accommodation, book flights and arrange an itinerary to suit your own party. Unless you decide not to budge from the hotel complex, I would suggest car hire is essential with good rates offered from budget through to full size vehicles.
